Use organisational value to fund community access. Keep AURIS free for those who need it.

AURIS helps people rebuild identity, stability and direction through research, learning and community.

This page sets out why AURIS Institute exists, how the work began, the values that decide what we build, and what has actually been done so far. The figures are counted live from our own records.

Identity drives behaviour.

AURIS helps people rebuild identity, stability and direction through research, learning and community.

Our mission

Use organisational value to fund community access.
Keep AURIS free for those who need it.

AURIS does not need to monetise vulnerability to create impact.

The Academy is one part of a wider system that brings research, learning, community and organisational value together.

Why this matters

Too many people who give the most end up navigating the hardest transitions alone.

AURIS exists to make that journey gentler, clearer and more hopeful, without pretending it is simple. We are a small, deliberate organisation building for the long term.

Our history

How the work came to be, in order.

AURIS was not designed as a product and then filled with content. Each part exists because the one before it left something unfinished.

  1. 01
    2015

    The conversations

AURIS began in 2015 as Direct Transitioning Help CIC, delivering workshops within 2 Lancashire Regiment. The work started with conversations that kept repeating themselves. People who had served, who looked fine, and who quietly were not. They were not unwell. They were unanchored, with a strong sense of who they had been and very little language for the moment that role ended or changed.

  2. 02

    The listening

Rather than build a programme first, we started small: listening, reading the research and working with individuals and the organisations around them. That became Identity After the Uniform, a long term qualitative study that is still running.

  3. 03

    The framework

A structure emerged from those conversations rather than being designed for them: Awareness, Understanding, Regulation, Identity, Stability. It is the order the work tends to happen in, and it has stayed fixed ever since.

  4. 04

    The learning

The framework was written into courses so it could be used by someone on their own, at their own pace, with a certificate at the end. The free courses are the entry point and they stay free.

  5. 05

    The community

Learning on its own leaves people with understanding and nowhere to take it. Connect & Discover holds records of real organisations, events, groups and opportunities, each checked by a person at AURIS before it appears.

  6. 06

    The practitioners

Practitioner training carries the same framework to the people already doing the work, so support can reach further than AURIS can reach on its own.

A fuller account, including the founder's own words, is on the Our Story page.

What we believe

Four convictions that shape every decision.

Identity is to be recognised, not solved.

We do not treat people as problems. We help them see themselves clearly.

Transition is a season, not a deficiency.

Change is part of a life lived in service. It deserves time and care.

Belonging is the quiet engine of recovery.

Most people heal in relationship, with themselves, others and purpose.

Evidence and humanity are not a trade.

We refuse to choose between rigour and warmth. We hold both.

Values in practice

How the money works.

A value is only real if it survives a funding decision. Ours is simple enough to state in three lines, and it has held since the work began in 2015.

Organisations pay

Employers, services and teams commission the work and fund it organisationally rather than personally.

Community access stays open

That value is what keeps the free courses free and the verified directory available to anyone, with no card and no trial.

Vulnerability is never the product

AURIS does not need to monetise vulnerability to create impact.

Research. People. Learning. Community. Technology. Self-Generating Impact. Always.

The AURIS model

How AURIS creates impact

One system, not separate products. Each part feeds the next.

  1. 01

    People

    Real experiences worth listening to.

  2. 02

    Research

    Deep listening and continuing research.

  3. 03

    Evidence

    Structured findings and responsible interpretation.

  4. 04

    Content

    Making knowledge accessible.

  5. 05

    Learning

    Turning understanding into practical change.

  6. 06

    Community

    Connection, participation and shared learning.

  7. 07

    Impact & Revenue

    Creating sustainable organisational value.

The aim is not to build a business around people's vulnerability.

The aim is to build enough organisational value to help keep meaningful community access available to those who need it.

Our impact

What has actually been done so far.

Each figure is counted from our own records when this page loads, and each one links to the page it comes from so you can check it. We do not publish outcome claims we cannot evidence.

Research findings on this site are emerging patterns from an ongoing study, never proven results, and no participant is ever named. See the full impact page for how many people have worked with AURIS, what they have completed and what we do not claim yet.
