Why do I feel lost after leaving the military?

Because service gives you a role, a routine, a rank and a group of people all at once. When those go together, the sense of who you are goes quiet for a while. That is an identity change, not a character flaw.

Is it normal to struggle years after leaving?

Yes. People in our research describe the unsettled feeling arriving long after the practical resettlement is finished, often once the new job stops being new.

Is this therapy or counselling?

No. This is education and coaching, not therapy. It teaches a way to understand identity and stability. It does not replace medical or mental health care. If you need urgent help, contact your GP or Samaritans on 116 123.
