Trafford Veterans is a group of armed forces veterans, emergency service personnel and local volunteers who live in Trafford, Greater Manchester. The group was formed in 2015 by two founding members who had left the armed forces and were facing physical and mental injuries that affected their return to their communities. Their experience led them to provide peer support to other veterans and members of the community so that people would not feel alone.
The organisation supports and signposts armed forces veterans, emergency services personnel, reservists, members of the cadet forces and their families. It holds events and activities and encourages people to take part and to share their hobbies and skills, which the organisation says helps people learn new things, meet new people and build confidence, provides volunteering opportunities and tackles social isolation. Where someone needs more help than peer support can give, the organisation signposts or refers to partner agencies.
Working in partnership with Sale United FC and Trafford Housing Trust, the organisation uses the small pavilion at Crossford Bridge as a veterans hub for outreach drop-ins, appointments and activities, and links there with other organisations working in the community. A mobile veterans hub was opened by the High Sheriff of Greater Manchester on 5 September.
