AURIS Academy pathway

Life and Role Change: When the Role Changes and You Are Still There

This pathway is for anyone whose working life is changing, by choice or not. A career change at 40 or 50, redundancy, retirement, illness, or simply reaching a point where the role you have held for years no longer feels like you. It starts from the part most transition support skips: who you are underneath the job.

Complete the pathway

5 courses · 5 Certificates of Completion

Start with one free course, then continue through four specialist courses designed to work together.

Complete all five courses in this pathway and receive an individual AURIS Certificate of Completion for each completed course. These are course completion certificates, not a qualification or professional certification.

The first course is free and stays free. The £20 covers the four paid courses, which are £10 each on their own.

  • Retirement arrived and I did not expect to feel this flat.

Why these courses work together

  • The free course establishes that difficulty with change is normal rather than a personal failing, which is the ground everything else stands on.
  • Identity Foundations then works the whole AURIS framework, so the language of the remaining courses is already familiar.
  • Emotional Regulation comes before Purpose deliberately. Direction is hard to find while reactions are running the day.
  • Building Purpose and Building Stability finish the journey: direction that does not rely on a job title, and a structure that holds when the week goes badly.
  • The course records already point Building Purpose and Building Stability at Identity Foundations as their starting point, so this order matches how the courses were written.

How AURIS approaches this

Every pathway moves through the same five pillars: Awareness, Understanding, Regulation, Identity and Stability. Noticing what is happening, understanding what it is doing, steadying it, rebuilding who you are, then making that hold.

What the evidence does, and does not, show

  • What the evidence supports: that a defining role ending disrupts identity as well as income, that this disruption is common rather than exceptional, and that habits are built through cue, action and repetition rather than willpower.
  • What it does not show: that any course resolves that disruption on a timetable. AURIS research describes an emerging pattern from a minority of its interviews, not a proven sequence.
  • This is education, not therapy or clinical treatment. It makes no promise about employment, recovery or psychological improvement.

Common questions

Is it too late to change career at 40 or 50?
Age is rarely the real obstacle. The harder part is usually that a long-held role has become part of how you understand yourself, so changing it feels like more than changing jobs. This pathway works on that directly.
Do I have to buy the whole pathway?
No. The first course is free and stays free. Each paid course can be bought on its own for £10. The pathway price of £20 covers all four paid courses together.
Do I get a certificate?
Complete all five courses in this pathway and receive an individual AURIS Certificate of Completion for each completed course.
How long does it take?
All five courses are self-paced. There is no deadline and nothing expires, so you can work through a course in an evening or over a month.
